Since its inception in 1965, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is devoted to collecting works of art that span both history and geography, and represents Los Angeles's uniquely diverse population.
LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States, with a collection that includes nearly 130,000 objects dating from antiquity to the present, encompassing the geographic world and nearly the entire history of art. Among the museum’s strengths are its holdings of Asian art, Latin American art, ranging from pre-Columbian masterpieces to works by leading modern and contemporary artists; and Islamic art, of which LACMA hosts one of the most significant collections in the world. A museum of international stature as well as a vital part of Southern California, LACMA shares its vast collections through exhibitions, public programs, and research facilities that attract over a million visitors annually, in addition to serving millions through digital initiatives, such as online collections, scholarly catalogues, and interactive engagement at lacma.org. Situated in Hancock Park on over 20 acres in the heart of Los Angeles, LACMA is located between the ocean and downtown.
LACMA and Gucci
Over the years, LACMA made film a central part of its mission to bring masterpieces of art and culture to the community. To support this mission, in 2011 the museum launched the first annual Art + Film Gala, a black tie gala benefit event to celebrate the work of an accomplished filmmaker and artist each year who have made significant contributions to the arts. Proceeds from the Art + Film Gala support the museum’s film exhibitions, programs and education initiatives. Now in its seventh year, the 2017 Art+Film Gala, co-chaired by LACMA trustee Eva Chow and actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who continue to champion the museum’s film initiatives. Since its first year, Gucci is the presenting sponsor of the inaugural film benefit event, as part of a long-term partnership with LACMA designed to further Gucci’s ongoing commitment to film and to create an important relationship with one of the top arts and cultural institutions in Los Angeles, at the center of the film community.
